Preaching is not the performance of an hour. It is the outflow of a life.

We glorify God when we are devoted to his service; our head studies for him, our tongue pleads for him, and our hands relieve his members.

In the last analysis atheism results from the perverted moral state of man and from his desire to escape from God. It is deliberately blind to and suppresses the most fundamental instinct of man, the deepest needs of the soul, the highest aspirations of the human spirit, and the longings of a heart that gropes after some higher Being.

How tragic that we in this dark day have had our seeking done for us by our teachers. Everything is made to center upon the initial act of “accepting” Christ (a term, incidentally, which is not found in the Bible) and we are not expected thereafter to crave any further revelation of God to our souls. We have been snared in the coils of a spurious logic which insists that if we have found Him we need no more seek Him.

Will we let them sit at ease in Zion while certain judgment is visible from the watchtower? Should we not cry out to them: Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light. (Eph. 5:14) Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. (2 Cor. 13:5) Make your call and election sure. (2 Peter 1:10) Understand that this is not a call for ministers or laypeople to become the judges of others, but to put away the belief in and proclamation of a superficial and powerless gospel that is granting assurance to millions, making them resistant against a biblical gospel and sealing their eternal condemnation. We must learn to console and assure the weakest saint who is broken over his many sins, but we must also learn to warn the false convert whose life is a barren and fruitless tree and whose settled manner of living is a contradiction to the gospel.

Prayer for revival will prevail when it is accompanied by radical amendment of life; not before. All-night prayer meetings that are not preceded by practical repentance may actually be displeasing to God. “To obey is better than sacrifice.”
